Earlier November 3–4 overnight snapshot (superseded)
CAMARILLO — November 4, 2026. A narrow gap separated the candidates in Camarillo City Council District 5 after the first overnight count. Martita Martinez-Bravo had 1,704 votes (50.49%), versus David Schlangen’s 1,671 (49.51%), leaving just 33 votes between them.
Three separate council districts
District 1’s initial totals showed David Tennessen ahead of Vishnu Patel, 2,063 to 1,209. In District 2, Susan Santangelo led with 1,128 votes; Dan Gober had 814 and Sylvia Garcia 246. These are distinct constituencies, not votes in one citywide mayoral contest.
Why a 33-vote margin matters
When an incomplete tally is separated by only a few dozen votes, later mail and conditional ballots can change the reported order. City Council members decide city budget, land-use and municipal-service questions. Residents should monitor the next official county update rather than treat the first displayed totals as a completed election.
What the first returns do and do not show
The results are early returns, not certified winners or final turnout. Ventura County will continue processing valid outstanding mail and other eligible ballots during the official canvass. District candidates represent voters in their own electoral area; their numbers cannot be combined with other districts or the mayoral race. The county’s later report may change margins, so California58 will identify the timestamp of each updated count.
